#AllAmericanHistory On May 2, 1945, the 82nd Airborne Division seized Ludwigslust, 200km northwest of Berlin. That same day, Maj. Gen. Gavin accepted the surrender of over 150,000 German soldiers. The Division also discovered the atrocities at the Wöbbelin concentration camp.

OTD in 1945, Maj. Gen. James Gavin ordered the 82nd to attack across the Elbe River and seize a bridgehead at Bleckede. The 505th crossed the Elbe River at Bleckede marking the division's last combat operation of WWII.
