Rome is home to the world’s largest standing ancient Egyptian obelisk. Dating to around 1400 BC, the 32m-high Lateran Obelisk was brought to Rome by Constantius II in the 4th century AD and erected in the Circus Maximus. It has stood in Piazza San Giovanni in Laterano since 1588.
