Today, Defra announced that £11 million from water company fines will be reinvested to improve our water environment.

However, this is only a fraction of what's required to restore our rivers.

Chief Executive of The Rivers Trust Mark Lloyd responds to the announcement 👇

Our latest phosphate testing evidences 21 times what is recognised as acceptable in a chalk stream & if we compare our results to the aim for high status the abused River Lambourn tested 53 times higher!
These phosphate levels are excessive & must be addressed.

💩 Tour continues, still in Upper Lambourn today, the smell emanating from yet another spewing manhole leaves you in no doubt there's untreated sewage pouring across a public footpath & straight into the River Lambourn.

💩 Show in Upper Lambourn today, yet another another example of ongoing untreated sewage pouring out of manholes across the road, then pouring down a storm drain that will drain directly into the Lambourn.

Happy A day to bring attention to the importance of aquatic creatures to ecosystems.
Here's one of our favourites, the fabulous cased caddis.
Caddis depend on a healthy river to thrive, they are an important food source for fish and water shrew.
