This trench art inkstand was made from military debris collected by Sapper Stanley Pearl during his service with 5th Field Company Engineers. It is part of a collection of trench art produced by Pearl and was completed on the Somme in February 1917.

Today we remember Private Edward Bounds, who was killed at Villers-Bretonneux in France on this day in 1918, when he was mortally wounded by a piece of German shell fragment.

He was 26 years old.
