I’ll be ‘celebrating’ during my second night shift of the weekend with a mild headache, ample coffee and a beef stew from the freezer.

The Flood Alert covering tidal riverside properties from Putney to Teddington can then be removed tomorrow as the spring tides switch to neaps.

The tide in the early hours of tomorrow will be lower thanks to favourable weather, although we have issued an Alert upstream of Putney.

Not as high as the tides yesterday would have been, so no Thames Barrier closure on this tide.

It's a little unusual to have a #ThamesBarrier closure this late in the Flood Season. Of the 220 closures, the breakdown is:

November - 12
December - 28
January - 58
February - 69
March - 32
April - 5 (including today)
May - 1

✅ #ThamesBarrier closure 220 is complete, and Port of London Authority are informing river users they can come out of the starting blocks for the evening rush.

Some gates have been left in the defence position as further Barrier closure are possible over the next few high tides.

As a result of todays (and possibly others this week) Flood Defence Closure, the scheduled monthly test closure has been cancelled.

The tide is now peaking at the #ThamesBarrier .

We are in the process of moving some of the larger gates to underspill to allow a controlled amount of water under the gate.

This will speed up the reopening process for the evening rush hour.

This is our 220th Flood Defence Operation, and our 12th of what’s proving to be a busy flood season.

The tide is just peaking now at #Southend , and is the highest tide of the season so far.

Barrier will start to reopen at around 16.00.
