It was great being at Eggs & I this morning and hearing from great candidates Tanneshia Dukes Dante Pittman Lisa Grafstein Mo Green for NC Josh Stein on their visions for public schools and the children that they serve. More funding for our schools, teachers & our kids is a must!
Shout out Carrboro, NC & Carrboro Market for hosting the Orange County Living Wage’s Chili Cook Off on the Carrboro Town Commons! Supporting living wages in our community is their mission. I appreciate my friend Susan Romaine directing me to the delicious chili dishes & treats!
Yesterday I joined fellow state legislators for an energizing North Carolina Black Alliance Summit. We talked abt the danger of legislation diverting more taxpayer money from public schools to private school vouchers, reducing early voting & the crisis of funds drying up for childcare centers
This morning’s Teach For America (TFA) Teach For America North Carolina Breakfast was a great opportunity to explore their impact across the state. This year, their 800 corps members, teachers & tutors have helped 82,000 students. They made a strong call for higher teacher pay & affordable housing!
The State Superintendent we need is Mo Green for NC! His experience, temperament and vision make him THE champion for our kids, parents, public schools & our teachers. He will be a great State Superintendent for North Carolina! I’m proud to know and support him!
Congratulations UNC Health UNC Hospitals on its opening of the new surgical hospital! This was a long time coming. This new building and space will add great capacity for care at UNC Hospitals for our fast growing community and state!
Big thank you to the Science Policy and Advocacy Group (SPAG) at UNC-CH students & faculty advisor Jeffrey Warren, PhD for having us come and learn from the students as well. They asked sharp questions about a several policy areas from climate change to environmental justice, to our energy needs. We need their ideas and them!
Thank you so much Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools for hosting me today for Bring Your Legislator to School Day! From Pre-K to 12th grade, our educators are so dedicated to serving our kids and equipping them with the tools they need to succeed. Like other public schools across NC, they need more support!
Kudos to Mr. Robert Ballard for his tremendous leadership and developing the automotive program Chapel Hill High into what is now - award-winning and skills-building for life for our young people!
