🇦🇺 welcomes the appointment of Julie Bishop as UN Special Envoy on 🇲🇲

🇦🇺 will work closely with Ms Bishop, ASEAN & the international community to deploy our collective efforts to build conditions for sustainable peace in Myanmar, including through #ASEAN ’s Five Point Consensus.

I'm happy to confirm that I will be visiting #Australia 🇦🇺 11-22 November officially. I thank the Government for its invitation and look forward to conducting an independent investigation & meeting a variety of stakeholders. A call for input will be issued in due course.

Australia is working with countries that have influence in the Middle East to help protect and support civilians, advocate for a humanitarian ceasefire, to prevent conflict from spreading, and to reinforce the need for a just and enduring peace.

At the close of #HRC55 , I welcomed the historic adoption of the United Nations Human Rights Council | #HRC55 resolution on the rights of intersex persons.

Important #HRC55 event today: 10 years after the UN Commission of Inquiry presented its report to United Nations Human Rights Council | #HRC55, the human rights situation in North Korea remains very grim: widespread & systematic human rights violations continue, some of which may constitute crimes against humanity.

10 years after the United Nations Human Rights Council | #HRC55 Commission of Inquiry, the situation in the DPRK has tragically seen no progress. 🇦🇺 will continue to strongly advocate for the #HumanRights of North Koreans, just as it has since 2014.
