This is a brave person. This is what bravery looks like. This is what truth looks like. This is the voice of the Middle East. I know it’s so much sexier to blame the Jews, but it’s so incredibly selfish, privileged and unintelligent.

Although it is a very exciting development, it is sad to see that no code will be released, which would not be allowed for academic institutions @nature. It was clear that weights will not be released (despite being trained purely on public data) but this I did not expect.

1. Yesterday in lab meeting we discussed the proper etiquette for how to ask for reagents. Obviously if a reagent is published it should (& in my lab will) be sent no matter how the request is made. BUT its professional courtesy to do so in collegial manner. Here's a rough guide:

Pedro Beltrao As a reviewer #3 of the paper, I tried REALLY HARD to get nature to demand downloadable code. The editors just ghosted me. I wrote extensively that the server needed work but I was not given the paper to re-review so I don't know if they improved it. It's not available yet.

AlphaFold3 is out with improvements on structural models that include DNA/RNA and small molecules. Unfortunately, there is no code, no binary to run at scale and only a limited webserver. Why even publish? nature.com/articles/s4158…

Roland Dunbrack 🏳️‍🌈 @rolanddunbrack.bsky.social nature Google DeepMind I think if there is no interest to publish the code, Deepmind should simply do a press release (which they did months ago). In the absence of that and a server with very limited throughput, this is just an Ad.

In my review, I made a list of much science that happened bc AlphaFold2 code was released. I suggested that so much science will not happen if AlphaFold3 code is not released (or not with AF3 itself). We've made ~100k models with AF2 code. How could we use a server for all that?

Instead of a large animal (mice🐀), we decided to investigate the effects of in vivo reprogramming in a smaller one (worms🪱). Happy with the results and excited about the new experiments that we are currently performing, which would take years in mice. The best is yet to come!

can we please stop tricking ourselves into believing data analysis is the quick part that takes a small proportion of a project? so far i have only published pure dry lab papers. there is NONE that took less than year(s). even those without new methods take long.
