What is behind the U.S. refusal to recognize a Palestinian state before such statehood is negotiated between Israel and Palestinians? I believe I’m correct in saying the origins of this position go back to 1972 and the Nixon administration’s undermining of UNSC Resolution 242.

Is it me or do you also find Hussain’s over-enthusiastic, teeny-bop, pro-Israel boosterism just a tad overdone?

In March, I warned that the U.S. had to think through if it wanted to be implicated in Israel’s mass killings in Gaza (carnegie-mec.org/middle-east/di…). Now, a group of U.S. legal professionals, in a letter to U.S. officials, is confirming the real risk of this: docs.google.com/document/d/e/2…

Fairly damning Thomas L. Friedman piece on Netanyahu’s fiasco in Gaza. Israel is caught up in a war “with no plan for how to get out and consolidate whatever military victory has been achieved,” while Hamas will “most likely re-emerge under new leadership”: nytimes.com/2024/05/10/opi…

U.S. position on Palestinian statehood: It must be negotiated by Palestinians and Israelis, even though Israel rejects a Palestinian state, therefore there is nothing for it worth negotiating. As usual, the UNGA vote is a blowout against such absurdity: news.un.org/en/story/2024/…

“Swiftly and efficiently.” Not even U.S. officials, who have covered for Israeli war crimes until now, believe Rob’s antiseptic description is remotely realizable. And who will agree that 8 months of bombing civilians constitute a “defensive war.” What about proportionality?
