After our EGM passed three motions mandating an opt out of the strike in return for significant refunds for MAB deductions, management has refused branch demands. Birkbeck UCU will therefore take part in the National strike days from 25-29 September.

Absolutely no need for scare quotes in this headline.

It is deeply hurtful to hear HR extend 'thanks and appreciation to staff who have not, and will not, be participating in this industrial action'. The MAB was part of lawful dispute undertaken by some of the most committed educators Birkbeck employs.

As the MAB ends, members of Birkbeck UCU can be proud of their commitment, their acts of solidarity with one another, their determination to resist pressure from management. La luta continua.
