My Dad, aged 10, swam from Weymouth beach in June 1944, swam amongst the boats and the mulberry harbours, and wished the lads ‘good luck’ as they prepared for D-day.

My dads father was a Sergeant in the Dorset Constabulary, in Weymouth. Terrifying to look at the sea every morning and wonder - if this was the day the Nazis would invade the south coast.

My Grandpa, on home leave in 1943, with my mum and her brother. Thinking of all those who served. Best wishes on VE Day.
