BUDGET UPDATE: Our budget reduces the backlog of cases of discrimination by adding specialists at the Office of Human Rights and promotes fair housing practices by restoring funds to the Fair Housing Program.

BUDGET UPDATE: We funded additional license plate readers on tow trucks to find and take action to target more scofflaw vehicles. And we are expanding the Dept. of For-Hire vehicles ability to enforce ride-shares, taxis, and other services.

BUDGET UPDATE: We transferred money to add staff to the city's crime scene services division in the Department of Forensic Services - critical to making arrests and to successful prosecution.

BUDGET UPDATE: We added two mobile police surveillance cameras for Ward 1 in response to resident requests.

BUDGET UPDATE: The Committee on Public Works & Operations, which I chair, transferred funds for key investments in public safety in Ward 1 and District-wide, starting w/continuing the outreach program for people living w/substance use disorder in Ward 1 commercial corridors.

BUDGET REPORT: My committee allotted funds to continue five standalone restrooms next year, including one in Columbia Heights. Charles Allen is funding one at Eastern Market. We’re also funding SWEEP inspectors to enforce solid waste violations to keep our neighborhoods clean.

This is a small office with a huge impact on the lives of children and the future of services for youth, especially those simultaneously involved in foster care and the juvenile justice system and we've had to protect it at least twice in the 3 years since I helped establish it.
