Highly recommend this piece by Nathalie Tocci on how EU (foreign) policy is increasingly driven by fear, leading to reactive and not too rarely also paralysed policy:

Head of Defence Forces elected first Irish chair of EU’s highest military body.
Great achievement and well done to Seán Clancy
I'm sure our European partners will take a renewed interest and focus on Irish defence capabilities and government efforts to improve

Awful that Janet Horner had to face violent abuse like this. But this dramatic deterioration in behaviour towards politicians is striking (if not frightening). Growing toxicity definitely, but I do wonder if the COVID crisis has played a part

As an #Irish person, I'm very proud. Congratulations to Seán Clancy & his Óglaigh na hÉireann @IrishMilRep team plus Irish Foreign Ministry & Department of Defence. Really hoping this is a big boost for our Óglaigh na hÉireann 🇮🇪. When #European 🇪🇺 security is on its knees, let's show them what we've got.
Having served in India at the beginning of my professional life with Irish Foreign Ministry and immersed myself in Indian history at that time, I am really enjoying William Dalrymple’s account of the early history of the East India Company, The Anarchy Bloomsbury Books UK. Recommended.
I'm delighted that today I've been able to announce across Edinburgh Law School that we have four, yes four, new professors! Let's welcome, in alphabetical order, Arianna Andreangeli (@AriAround), Professor of Competition Law; 1/2
'Reluctance' by Irish soldiers to serve in EU Battlegroup mission due to low pay
It’s essential that Department of Defence and Dept of Public Expenditure NDP Delivery & Reform work with Óglaigh na hÉireann & rep associations to ensure the success of this Government initiative. jrnl.ie/6379769
It is wonderful to be back on the Inishowen peninsula, my grandfather’s birthplace. I loved meeting the students of Scoil Eoghain, and I am incredibly grateful to Irish American Partnership for its generous donation to the school!
Well how wonderful to wake up to this epic article in the Financial Times - a huge thanks to Kate Finnigan and genevieve lutkin - the world really is my oyster! on.ft.com/4bCiUFi
Looking forward to debating again with European Economic and Social Committee in Bruxelles on #MuchMoreThanAMarket #SingleMarket Jacques Delors Institute
You Broke It Mate While Farage and Co were getting pissed on Brexit the Irish Diplomatic Corps were ensuring NI was top of the agenda. They sent experts in their field and well briefed politicians eg Simon Coveney. When The UK sat down to negotiate they had Davis & then Frost...it was gameover.
