Be aware that wildlife, such as mule deer and the non-native Barbary sheep, are crossing and along the park road. Please watch for them and slow down. Only stop in pullouts to view wildlife, not in the road.

Due to important safety training for park staff, the cavern will open at 10:30 am on February 14, 15, 21, and 22. The visitor center, bookstore, and gift shop will open at 8 am.

Carlsbad Caverns National Park will be closed from 5:00 pm MST on Sunday, December 31, through 6:00 am on Tuesday, January 2. This closure includes the visitor center, cavern, entrance gates on the park road (Walnut Canyon Drive/NM7), Rattlesnake Springs, and Slaughter Canyon.

The park will be closed from 5:00 pm MST on Sunday, December 24, through 6:00 am on Tuesday, December 26, in observance of Christmas. This includes the visitor center, cavern, entrance gates on the park road (NM 7), Rattlesnake Springs, and Slaughter Canyon.

Join us for a safe viewing of a partial annular eclipse this Saturday, October 14. The eclipse will start at 9:15 AM MST and end at 12 PM MST. Solar filter telescopes will be set up for direct viewings and pinhole viewfinders for indirect viewing of this celestial event.

Carlsbad Caverns National Park stands on the ancestral homelands of several Indigenous Tribes, including the Mescalero Apache, the Jicarilla Apache, the Lipan Apache, the Chiricahua Apache, and the Joronada Mogollon.
