Bus shelter graffiti. I think it reads ‘Wrightie, Widnes, April 14, 1968’. Between Keswick and Bassenthwaite by Crookelty Bridge.

Snow on the higher fells at the southern end of Borrowdale this morning. Castle Crag, once the site of a hill fort in the centre.

Rhododendron under a misty fell at Mirehouse near Bassenthwaite in the Lake District on Friday. I guess the cloud and rain suits the rhododendrons, many of which are brightly flowered at the moment.

Blossom in Keswick with the Skiddaw Fells in the background. Whoever decided to plant these trees did a great job.

Lovely to get some sunshine in Borrowdale today. This is Great Wood which I think is owned by the National Trust.

An exhibition of art by Percy Kelly (1918–1993) in Keswick’s Theatre by the Lake. Percy Kelly was an artist born in Workington in West Cumbria who also lived in Wales and Norfolk. He rarely sold his work saying he could not bear to part with them.

‘To southerners, the north means desolation, arctic temperatures, mushy peas, a cultural wasteland with limited shopping opportunities. To northerners it means home, truth, beauty, valour, romance, warm and characterful people, real beer and decent chip shops’. S. Maconie.

It rained and it rained and it rained. Piglet told himself that never in all his life, and he was goodness knows HOW old - three, was it, or four? - never had he seen so much rain. Days and days and days. Every day the water got a little higher. ~A.A.Milne
