If a female tells you that she’s in medical school or she’s a medical student, it means she’s going to school to become a physician, not an RN, not a PA, not an NP. A physician.

Surgeons know what it is like to care for these patients. We, more than any other professionals, are intimately involved in the treatment of the injuries. So many others, though, are impacted when a community suffers this sort of event. Firearm violence is a public health crisis.

Too many people I know have experienced long COVID now.

It’s already devastating not to feel like your normal self but the worst is to hearing how they feel embarrassed and gaslit by the “COVID is over” or “mild” people to the point they suffer in silence.

What have we done?

Excellent.

The American College of Surgeons is committed to protection of the patient-physician relationship, and opposes governmental intrusion in the practice of medicine.

And the experts in ALL of these scenarios are...physicians, health care workers, people whose job it is to care about the health of our communities.
The current state of affairs is this, politics and political posturing and rhetoric is literally killing millions of people.

Gun violence is not a political issue.
COVID19 is not a political issue.
Womens Health is not a political issue.
Politicians talk about physicians staying in our lane? This is all our lane. This is public health. It's not politics. You stay in your lane and let us do our jobs.

Firearm injury is NOW THE TOP CAUSE OF DEATH for kids/teens… overtaking motor vehicle accidents

Laws made driving safer. We must do the same for guns.

Advocacy works, and it should be part of all surgeons’ portfolios.
