This beautiful map of the county of Essex is 300 years old! It's currently on display in our Towns Through Time exhibition. It was drawn by Herman Moll (b.1654-d.1732).

Another great photo on display in our Towns Through Time exhibition. Church Street in the early 1960s showing the Waltham Abbey Club. The Waltham Abbey Club was originally built as a Baptist Chapel. These buildings were later demolished.

140 years ago, Loughton’s Lopping Hall was officially opened.
On display is this rather lovely poster advertising celebrations taking place over three days, including promenades and displays through rooms and ‘a marvellous mechanical nightingale’ that sings.

We have a large collection of costume worn or made in the district. This beautiful pink late 1960s evening dress, by Frank Usher is currently on display. The Frank Usher brand created stylish designs that were ready to wear and affordable.
