“Somehow, while we had all been busy, while we had been doing those small things which added up to living, the future had slipped into the present” Jessie Greengrass.

Be nice to hear some discussion about adapting to climate change in the UK in the GE, not shouty wedge stuff.

Hailstorm in Nottingham, as my brother texts me a photo of the massive hornet he’s found in my nephew’s room. Preferred it when British summer came with fewer medieval portents tbh.

NeuConnect, the link under construction between 🇬🇧 and 🇩🇪, is. 1.4GW 725km HVDC link running at 525kV. Point to point asynchronous interconnection over substantial distance. This is the correct use of HVDC. More interconnecters to neighbours are being built all the time

As we do another motorway drive at planned toddler naptime, I can sincerely say that one of the great regrets of my life was encouraging a 2 year to get really, really, really excited by pylons.

Today, just in the nick of time, the Environmental Audit Committee has published its report into the sustainable electrification of the economy. It's a dense report and makes a number of recommendations. It is required reading for the next government 🧵.

Interestingly, when we asked the public what the cause of their high energy bills is, throughout the crisis they always identified volatile gas prices as the cause, and liked the idea of homegrown, green power.

Actually devastated if General Election means that we don’t get more of these videos: just waiting for a heat pump to be wrapped in zebra print whilst a patient engineer explains efficiency. More please.

A drop in the price cap offers some relief for customers who were facing bills that were hundreds of pounds higher this time last year. We hope to see the next Government work with industry and Ofgem to make bills affordable long-term. Read EUK's response: energy-uk.org.uk/news/energy-uk…

As Adam Scorer said on the radio this morning - a fall in the price cap is good, obviously, but there are many households still struggling and £3bn+ of debt still being managed by suppliers. Much more to be done on bills, support, and retail under the next Government.

An industry legend, Alan Whitehead is one of the few Parliamentarians who can go toe to toe with the sector on stuff like frequency response. He was also thoroughly decent. He’ll be missed.

I don't think a single journalist noticed it, but Labour's Darren Jones made quite an interesting announcement on infrastructure yesterday afternoon.

They've pledged to merge the Infrastructure Projects Authority and the National Infrastructure Commission.

Some thoughts.
