#OTD 1641 Thomas Wentworth was executed.

He entered Parliament as MP for Yorkshire in 1614 & from 1632-40 was Lord Deputy of Ireland. After he defended himself against impeachment charges, Parliament passed a bill of attainder to ensure he was executed.

Held by the parliamentarians until besieged by the Royalists in Feb-March 1644, the commander, Col. Samuel More finally surrendered. His remaining 20-30 soldiers were (seemingly) executed by the victorious royalists.

Such a peaceful spot now...
