To ensure good quality samples of the agreed livestock species are regularly sent to National Animal Health Laboratory for national AMR surveillance, Food and Agriculture Organization ECTAD provided training to Provincial Animal Health Laboratory on sample collection and handling of bacteria isolation

In 2022-2023, Food and Agriculture Organization ECTAD and the Department of Livestock and Fisheries collected 344 chicken and 345 pig caeca from Vientiane Capital, Luang Prabang, Xiengkhouang, Savannakhet and Champasack for bacterial isolation and identification, and antimicrobial susceptibility testing.

FAO ECTAD worked with the Faculty of Veterinary Science, Chulalongkorn University Veterinary to assess the National Animal Health Laboratory’s capacity in four key provinces. With FAO’s Assessment Tool for Laboratories and AMR Surveillance Systems, gaps were identified.
