This past Tuesday, members of FDNY’s Rescue Operations, HazMat Operations, the Rebreather Task Force, and EMS Special Operations joined forces with the Chemical Biological Incident Response Force Marines for a Rebreather Drill in the East New York Tunnel.

On Friday, the family of Lt. Chris Raguso met with the family of FF Kamran Khan and Engine 219. FF Khan passed away in February 2024. John Raguso presented the Khan family with a check from 39&One, a foundation in Lt. Raguso’s memory which helps the families of firefighters.

Yesterday, the FDNY Lithium-lon Task Force hosted executives from the Croatian Fire Brigade at FDNY Headquarters. The group met with members from BFP and BFI to discuss the dangers of Lithium-ion batteries.

Last week, military, federal, state, and local medical responders integrated forces at the 11th Annual FDNY Search and Rescue Field Medicine Symposium. The 4 day event allowed first responders to engage in workshops, lectures, panel discussions, and hands-on-skills scenarios.

Last Thursday, the South Korean National Fire Agency visited FDNY Headquarters in Brooklyn and met with FDNY officials. They discussed potential collaborative opportunities and gained insights into the management practices of the FDNY.

On Wednesday, Fire Commissioner Laura Kavanagh attended the inaugural World Fire Congress to discuss the fire risks of emerging technologies, including lithium-ion batteries. FDNY officials wrapped up the trip to DC on Capitol Hill, where they met with lawmakers about H.R. 1797.

On Tuesday, FDNY officials met with lawmakers on Capitol Hill to discuss legislation that would regulate uncertified lithium-ion batteries. H.R. 1797, has passed committee and when enacted, will ensure that only certified batteries are able to enter the United States.

Last Wednesday, Lieutenant Scott Heinze retired after 37 years of service to the FDNY. He began his career as an EMT in 1988. The FDNY thanks Lieutenant Heinze for his many dedicated years of service and we wish him a happy retirement.

Fire Prevention Inspector Gonganlou Newenle has been on the job since April 2022.

Inspector Gonganlou’s unit is responsible for testing building fire systems and ensuring all systems are up to code and safe.
