Frankly, we thought having one major US media outlet (Wash Times) run by a rightwing religious cult was enough. Now we have two.

Remember that all the Shen Yun shows are put on by the cult behind the Epoch Times, too.

Earlier in April, New York became the first state to give news outlets a tax break for hiring or employing journalists.

The financial support can’t come soon enough; between 2004 to 2019, 40% of New York newspapers were shuttered. freedom.press/news/new-york-…

Progress in CT! And this particular approach involves no new money being spent by the government. It's just saying... hey if you're spending ad money on media anyway, how about you make an effort to put some of it toward community media.

I can’t get over a New York Times passage over the weekend. NYT said Trump isn’t a full fascist because:
* He “did not generally govern like one.” (Really? I’d say patriotic bureaucrats stopped him.)
* He didn’t try a 2nd coup after the 1st coup failed. (That’s crazy logic.)

A majority of voters give Trump a pass on job losses but ding Biden on inflation, even though both are products of the pandemic and one reason why is that journalists do exactly this Katy Tur MSNBC

4) 'Go meta.' Apply lessons of experts on authoritarianism (h/t Ruth Ben-Ghiat) - tell voters that eroding our will to resist is actually the true aim of the autocrat. That despair is giving into what wealthy & powerful want.

Out of laziness or fear, some media think small with the big type.

This week, Mark Jacob explains that headlines matter a lot – and mainstream media often fails to make the most of them. stopthepresses.news/p/why-headline…

The New York Times and some other news outlets know their political headlines are especially sensitive, so they make them especially meaningless.
It’s not incompetence. It may be cowardice.

You know what happened, @Politico. MAGA Republicans decided their political power was more important than the lives of Americans.

Do you know how this happened? At one point, @miamiherald had at least one reporter covering every city commission meeting from Vero Beach to Key West. We covered planning commissions. We looked at every proposed project. Today, newspapers have skeleton staffs. This is what…

But on top of my deep moral disgust at Trumpism I am profoundly concerned by the impotence of the 'Fourth Estate,' the news media, to rid ourselves of it.

Ideally the media, via their 1st Amendment rights, would act as our nation's intellectual immune system.

I've thought for a long time about the pithiest way to describe NPR's ever-more peculiar neutrality towards Trumpism.

Moral nihilism, both-siderism, etc.

I concocted my new favorite this weekend and the below tweet provides a perfect opportunity to roll it out: moral deadpan.
