After walking along the coastline and then up Artillery Road, we are now gathering in the warmth of the morning sunshine at Lone Pine CWGC for the Australian service of commemoration. Following on after the Dawn Service at Anzac Cove, it has a very different feel.

What an amazing start to the 'Brothers in Arms' tour with the author of the same, James Holland. Fantastic weather after breakfast on Sword Beach this morning. It's good to be out working with Tripsmiths and Battle Honours in Normandy.

Next up will be the 93rd Bomb Group at Alconbury, England. Also Hardwick. The Group flew Consolidated B 24 Liberators. #WWII

The 306th Bomb Group from Thurleigh flew 342 missions. The'mission' was the Group's instructions, the targets to be bombed. Often it could change due to the target's weather and visibility. #WWII

Thurleigh, the 306th Bomb Group was among the earliest arrivals forming the 8th Air Force, Sept. 1942. Known as 'The Reich Wreckers' they flew 342 missions.... bringing down 332 enemy a/c certain. The cost was the staggering loss of 171 American B-17s. #WWII
