Summer Lee expresses doubt young people are enthusiastic about voting for Biden

Summer Lee claimed yesterday young voters #1 issue is Gaza.

Harvard Youth Poll came out the other day showing #1 issue is reproductive rights and Gaza is #15 out of 16.

ร€ core part of Labour's 'make Brexit work' agenda is SPS. Yet there is a flaw at the core of this.

To see it, let's look at the Irish Sugar company.

A thread: I have only read this article and NOT the book from which it derives, but as the author of the standard biography of Anthony Blunt, I feel inclined to comment. The main contention is that not only was Blunt spying for the Soviets, but that he was/

This is one of my endless fascinations, honestly. The Romans were trading regularly with India and with China through intermediaries, the Carthaginians may have gotten as far as the Gulf of Guinea, there are Hebrew inscriptions in the Himalayas. It's a small world!

I want to take a moment to give master roaster & truth teller Michelle Wolf a shout-out. In 2018 She used her night at the White House correspondents' dinner to speak truth & shame some powerful people & they deserved it. She said what we wanted to, but didn't have the reach.

Can we...just accept that we suck at this?

I want to tell you a story that has made me kinda hopeless about Twitter's ability to affect positive things happening, and it starts with this tweet from Hillary Clinton.

One thing Mary Beard said that has really stuck with me: When folks say they want to โ€˜restore the Roman Empireโ€™, they always assume theyโ€™ll be the senate, never the enslaved.

This popped up on an 'old photo' FB page.
Taken at St Pancras Town Hall in London, Flight Sgt Owen Sylvester RAF and Miss Laureen Goodare on their wedding day in October 1944.
Owen was (later?) awarded a DFM and Laureen worked for the London Fire Brigade.

Minister of Supply George Strauss taking MPs for a flight in a Bristol Brabazon (1950).

A breezy tone but the project was in trouble by then. BOAC had already rejected the aircraft in 1949 (opting for the Stratocruiser) with little interest elsewhere. No examples survive today.

These figures are eye-opening.

The expected cost of the new border checks exceeds the ยฃ330 million estimated by the Gov by a factor of 10. When you take into account not only official charges but also a range of direct and indirect business costs.

Biden only had to beat one challenger, Dean Phillips, to win the 2024 nomination. Back in the real world, some of us had to beat out multiple cousins to inherit our multinational publishing businesses.

I gave a presentation this morning, partly about Afghanistan. On the drive home it set me thinking.

My hunch is that part of the reason for Western protests about Gaza is a total failure to understand what urban war is, and what it looks like, and people are horrified to see it.

'Both major political parties blithely continue to maintain the fiction that this is, or could somehow become, a success, although suggestions as to how this might be achieved are almost entirely absent.'

That's right. Both Conservatives and The Labour Party should be ashamed!

Honestly, this goes back to 2019, when Biden humiliated the NYT ed board during their clownish endorsement process. They wrote him off; he proved them wrong. Then he had the audacity to steer the party away from the niche vanities of their elite bubble, and rebuild it around...
