This unlikely duo was spotted on the seafloor during the #SalasyGomezRidge expedition.
Saturday, #Okeanos Explorer left CA, steaming to HI where mapping operations will take place in 2024.
#NOAAFleetWeek fact: Okeanos is operated, managed, & maintained by NOAA Marine/Aviation & is one of our most important tools in exploring the deep.

Very important summary from Joe Khalil about today’s classified All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office & Department of Defense 🇺🇸 SAP Central Office director SCIF briefing of House #UAP caucus members. The House wants answers and it won’t be snowed.
Dubbed firework #corals by our team, the helix of branches in Iridogorgia magnispiralis remind many of underwater pyrotechnics. This species of #Iridogorgia has the largest helix diameter (meaning the most stretched coil) of all the species in the genus. #WildlifeWednesday
My latest The Sol Foundation paper is getting some good coverage. I cite it here noting that we are badly lacking adequate #maritimedomainawareness (MDA) and we have much to learn if the U.S. government ever adopts a policy of #UAP ( #UFO ) transparency.

Outstanding article here, Christopher K. Mellon! It is a shame that the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office is not following the law in their #UAP report, but doing it so ineptly. Are our other counterintelligence efforts as error-prone as this?
Christopher K. Mellon It's very peculiar that there are THREE issues (drones, UAP, AHI) where the USG has apparently no control, no solutions, no INFO, despite hundreds of documented issues.
Seems our military budget is infinite for lumbering dinosaur projects and pathetic for agile warfare.
Absolutely spot on, Chris and D. Dean Johnson, as we have been saying for the past 7 years. Nice to see they admit it. Now let’s see what they plan to do about it! As for AARO’s former leadership, we know they were completely ill-prepared to tackle this. Maybe we should let the
#DidYouKnow sponges produce chemicals used in biomedical research? Cytarabine, the primary drug used to treat leukemia, is derived from a sponge found on coral reefs! #SpongeSpotlight

Almost time to get started with #Okeanos operations! We'll be in the central Pacific for the first time since 2017. To collect needed baseline data and build key partnerships, this year we're focusing on *mapping* deep waters of Hawaiʻi and Johnston Atoll: oceanexplorer.noaa.gov/okeanos/explor…
