Yesterday I visited eastern Chad and the Sudan border where we have seen a crippling humanitarian catastrophe unfold since the conflict began. We are almost doubling UK aid to support those in desperate need.

Sudan crisis: Minister says UK will 'effectively double' aid and breaks down in tears

As famine looms in Sudan, the UK is at the UN to warn that 5 million people - primarily children - could suffer catastrophic hunger as a result of the conflict. We call on the warring parties for an immediate ceasefire and to allow aid to reach those in desperate need.

9 months of conflict in Sudan has seen a significant escalation of conflict related sexual violence across Sudan.

Despite incredibly difficult circumstances, the UK aid-funded Sudan Free of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) project is still working to protect women and girls.

The attack on the ICRC convoy in Khartoum on 10 December is utterly abhorrent.

We demand all warring parties to respect their obligations under international humanitarian law, ensure the protection of civilians and enable humanitarian access.

A real honour to speak at @SIHA Feminist Peace & Solidarity Conference on #Sudan . The war has seen appalling crimes against women and girls. UK will keep working for justice & accountability; support for survivors; and for women to have a REAL role in political processes.

Reports of clashes between RSF and SAF in El Fasher are appalling.

The protection of civilians is paramount.

I call on both sides to de-escalate, refrain from ethnically-targeted violence, and focus on negotiating an end to this conflict.

A key factor in our decision to table this resolution was the strong demand from many Sudanese civil society groups and human rights defenders for an independent international fact-finding mechanism. I am delighted for their sake that the Council voted to adopt the resolution.

Despite the tragic backdrop of Sudan’s ongoing war, it was good to catch up in Addis with old acquaintances from Khartoum Resistance Committees. Brave young people like these should decide 🇸🇩’s future, not the men of violence. UK will work to ensure their voices are heard.

Loved around the world, she dedicated Her life to Her country and the Commonwealth.

The UK is extremely concerned by the serious atrocities against civilians in Sudan. Intentionally directing attacks at the civilian population is a war crime. The UK will do all in its power to ensure there are credible investigations and accountability.
