Uni & TAFE should be free & all student debt wiped. Let’s start by abolishing indexation & providing some relief to people being weighed down by an ever ballooning debt.

Join me in demanding Labor take action to end the student debt crisis:

Labor refused demands from the Greens to protect students from huge debt increases last year, but there's still time to stop the massive indexation hit coming again this June.

No more tinkering around the edges. In the May budget, Labor must scrap indexation on student debt.

No more lacklustre changes that don’t fix the crisis.

Rather than gifting $313b to the wealthy in tax cuts & wasting $368b on war machines, Labor must stop the student debt spiral for people who just wanted an education.

Financial costs should never be a barrier to uni & TAFE.

There’s also talk of capping indexation at 3 or 4%.

A cap of 4% still means at least a $1k hike in the avg. HECS debt and almost $3k for someone with a $70,000 debt.

A hike people should not be slugged with in a cost of living crisis.

One idea being floated is setting indexation to whichever is lower, CPI or WPI. But this is just rearranging deck chairs on the titanic.

WPI is usually higher than CPI (including this year according to the govt’s projections) so this change will make little difference.

People are being crushed by debts. They need more than just crumbs.

The govt acts like a bank, indexing people through the roof & there’s no good reason for it. They rake in more from than from taxing gas corps.

No measly tweaks, Labor. Just scrap indexation.

Taking a day off to spend in nature today. We went on a beautiful waterfall circuit with koalas, emus and an echidna, in Belair NP just outside Adelaide.

The Australian bush is magical, unique and so worth fighting for.

This puts AUKUS in context. It’s about placing Australia in a subordinate role within the U.S. war machine.

Not sovereignty, but subservience.

Let’s be clear this man is a former Home Affairs secretary (not Defence) and left in circumstances that are best described as notorious.

So why this war drum profiling?

In Darwin today for the Senate Inquiry on missing and murdered First Nations women and children.

NT Police have told us they have zero First Nations Commissioned Officers.

Zero out of 50 or so Inspectors, Commanders, Assistant or Deputy Commissioners or Commissioner.

None.

Rental crisis, housing crisis, climate crisis.

But no worries, Labor's got a tick from the International Monetary Fund for its austerity measures! 🫠
