Helen Clark Yes, this statement takes NZ beyond what Ministers have been saying hitherto. It states baldly that the NZ Government see powerful reasons for New Zealand engaging practically with AUKUS. Clear sense that the official NZ mind is made up.

Biden admin’s spree of minilaterals with allies Australia, Japan, Philippines, and South Korea show that all are staunchly aligned on countering China. Partners like India, Indonesia, Singapore, and Vietnam simply don’t wish to be as engaged. Stay tuned on New Zealand though.
