Thanks to Akashi Sensei and 早稲田大学 Waseda University for the opportunity to make opening remarks at translators seminar at the beautiful Haruki Murakami library this morning, a joint symposium between 🇮🇪TCD and 🇯🇵Waseda.

Visited Osaka for the opening night of Riverdance there & also had a chance to see the famous castle 🏯. A great way to highlight Ireland’s music dance and culture as we prepare for EXPO2025 Osaka.

Enjoyed a very useful trip to Kobe, meeting with the Mayor, Chamber of Commerce and visiting the Anchor Kobe start up incubator centre. Great to discuss the opportunities for co-operation especially during Expo2025 大阪・関西万博 / Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai.

I was delighted to host author O.R Melling and friends to dinner last night. She is touring Japan and doing a series of readings - happy to foster the strong literary links between Ireland and Japan.

I was delighted to open the Kwaidan exhibition last night at Kyoto University of the Arts. Thanks to President Yoshikawa, artists Ed Milano and Stephen Lawlor for organising and it was great to see Lafcadio Hearn’s great grandson Bon Koizumi again as special guest at the opening.

Great to meet with some of the #Riverdance cast, back in Japan for their first tour in 9 years. Really enjoyed a fantastic opening night in Tokyo and looking forward to seeing them in Osaka again later in the month.

A busy day in Hokkaido meeting with the University of Sapporo, Vice Governor and Mayor to build on the strong links in education, agriculture and racing in Japan’s agricultural heartland and the centre of horse training and breeding 🐎
