“she assumed the world did not know what was happening in Gaza. Because if the world knew, how could they possibly let this happen?

How, indeed.” theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

I’m no lawyer but with unpunished statements like these, it is hard to imagine that South Africa does not succeed at proving an Article 3c “direct and public incitement” breach of the Genocide Convention, even if it fails to prove that genocide has actually occurred.

Planned Israeli checkpoints will separate unarmed Palestinian men from their families, trapping them in Rafah.

Military age men are not legitimate targets - inside or outside of war.

Every single time I see Holocaust survivors and their families at pro-Palestinian protests, I am awed by their commitment to justice.
Every time.

Friendly reminder that 'counterterrorism' policing in the US was born out of trying to control and shut down Black leftists in the 60s and 70s. It is not an accident that 'terrorism' is again trotted out to stifle liberatory action by (not exclusively) nonwhite students.

The Palestinian representative at the Security Council today: “What will the international community do? Will you give Israel the time it needs to annex Palestinian land? Will you give it immunity to evict the people? Will you give it the weapons to kill more people?'

Good, neither side wants escalation, can one set of leaders, either 's or 's, now please live with not having the last attack or do we need to keep retaliating like 3-year olds hitting each other in the car?

Cuban missile crisis, the toddler edition!

Great time for the US government to clearly state that the Fourth Geneva Convention applies in the West Bank, that it expects Israel to comply with the treaty, and for US to 'ensure respect' by AMCITs & implement the grave breach provisions, including through the War Crimes Act.

Especially incisive to include a call for self-reflection/ ownership by states and militaries of their role: “This latest round of violence was predictably fueled by decades of impunity for state violations of a most fundamental global rule: the prohibition on the use of force.”

Reprisals are illegal ... and stupid.

Israel bombs Iran's consulate.

Iran retaliates and 'considers the matter closed.'

Israel and the US ignore the consulate and treat the Iranian reprisal as an aggression.

Now Israel plans a reprisal, which Iran will treat as an aggression.

“Six months into the current military offensive, more housing and civilian infrastructure has now been destroyed in Gaza as a percentage, compared to any conflict in memory,” say U.N. experts. Hardly the targeted military effort that Israel describes. ohchr.org/en/press-relea…

Today's UNSC meeting will be ... awkward, as the United State has carried out a number of unlawful armed reprisals in recent years.

Iran actually has a stronger legal argument than the U.S. typically offers, though not strong enough in my view.
