Businesses are the backbone of our economy.

In challenging times, they’ve shown enormous resilience and creativity, like so many of those I’ve visited in Salisbury.

Great news that the highest number of businesses were incorporated in Q1 this year, since records began.

With just five days to go until PCC elections on 2nd May - we’ve had four teams out and about today around Salisbury and South Wiltshire in Hanging & Steeple Langford, Bishopdown, the Market Square, Bourne Hill, and Laverstock.

In the same week we’ve announced our plan to fire up the UK defence industrial base, I visited local automotive and aerospace innovator, Rotron Aerospace Ltd. They’re providing dynamic battlefield solutions to meet the demands of current conflicts, including in Ukraine. 🇬🇧🇺🇦

This morning I visited Turning Point, a commissioned provider of Connect Wiltshire, the free drug and alcohol addiction service.
 
Great to meet the team and learn about their important work and partnerships with other agencies to support people out of addiction.

I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of my dear friend Frank Field - an inspiring figure in British politics for over 45 years - we worked together on the APPG for Hunger and Food Poverty and he visited Salisbury to show support in the aftermath of the 2018 Novichok attack

Threats to the UK are growing & authoritarian states are increasingly assertive. While the cost of security is high, the cost of inaction is even higher.

I fully support the new plan for extra funding for our Forces.

Today we celebrate what is best about our heritage, culture and traditions. There are few things which have a greater capacity to draw people together than our history and sharing in our nation's story.

On Friday, I joined those attending the opening of Our Earth at Salisbury Cathedral - a thought provoking exhibition on the domestic impact of climate change. I hope constituents take the opportunity to visit.
