Two remaining child hostages in Gaza, Kfir and Ariel, have yet to be released.

It’s been over 180 days of anguish for the hostages and families.

Children lost family members and are missing parents and loved ones still held hostage.

All hostages must be released NOW.

War in Gaza has reportedly killed over 13K children and injured countless more.

Homes, schools and hospitals in ruin.

Teachers, doctors and humanitarians killed.

Famine is imminent.

The level and speed of destruction are shocking.

Deepest condolences to José Andrés and the World Central Kitchen over the tragic death of their team members while delivering urgent food aid to Gazans. We thank you for your sacrifice and humanity. Humanitarian agencies must be protected in Gaza

Al Jazeera was the first major Arabic news channel to label Israel on a map. It was also the first to interview Israeli officials. For that, in the 1990s, it was often accused of being part of a Zionist conspiracy against Arabs.

We are devastated. 💔
We came together to help in a place where hunger is a weapon of war, and now the teams of our colleagues World Central Kitchen in are the target. Irreparable human losses in a place where humanity is being destroyed.
RIP

We are mourning with our colleagues in WCK.
7 of their aid workers were killed by an Israeli air strike in Gaza.
WCK had informed the IDF of their movement.
Nowhere else are so many aid workers killed.
There must be an immediate ceasefire. Enough now.

Turkey thoughts:
1) despite Erdogan/AKP amassing near total media control & crushing dissent, hunger for democracy and a different Turkey hasn’t died
2) Erdogan has no clear successor (and suggested this’ll be his last election). CHP has Imamoglu & Yavas. And tonight boosts both.

Reality check:

• Erdogan is here to stay until 2028

• CHP won an election for the first time since 1977

• Imamoglu will be around for a long time, whether he gets the CHP chairmanship or not

• Most of the anti-AKP votes are in protest of the economy

• The…

covering Turkey for years I learned that no matter how worried Turks were about their democracy..they would always tell you it was still very much alive at the ballot box & thats where they’ll get to have their say in future of their country. Tonight was stunning reminder of that

Turkey mayoral elex takeaways:

1. Leaders matter - main opposition CHP dropped its uninspiring chair before the polls
2. Economy matters - Erdogan has yet to fulfill his promise of economic rebound
3. Kurds matter - they carried Imamoglu in Istanbul and other mayors to victory

Another proof that Turkey isn’t in the league of autocracies such as Russia or China.

It is, and it was and it will be a democracy thanks to its diverse and vibrant population, and its strongly rooted democratic culture
