As North East Mayor I’ll bring buses under public control so they go where we need them, not just where profit takes them.

With Louise Haigh as transport secretary a The Labour Party govt we’ll do this quicker.

This is just the start. As mayor I’ll fix our broken public transport…

The Cass Review must be a watershed moment for the NHS’s gender identity services.

My response for The Labour Party underlining our support for the Cass Review’s evidence-led recommendations and our determination to put children’s health and wellbeing above the political fray 👇🏻

I will take on tax dodgers to fund our NHS and schools.

I promised I would honour my commitment to find new funding - and I've stuck to my word.

Lord Doug Hoyle was Labour through and through. A distinguished parliamentarian and a tenacious campaigner, serving as both a Member of Parliament for Nelson and Colne, and then Warrington.

We will truly miss him.

A wholly independent review is indeed needed on the killing of WCK staff.
It must look at all attacks on aid workers in , including the Israeli airstrike on our Medical Aid for Palestinians IRC - International Rescue Committee compound on 18 Jan, which almost killed 12 people.

Yesterday’s awful news about the killing of seven aid workers by Israeli forces is the latest in a string of horrors in Gaza.
It brings the total number of aid workers killed to 196, despite their protection under international law.

after five terms (i know, judgement is very, very welcome) it's over and out for Cambridge University Labour Club. I'm glad we could support our uni staff on strike and aid efforts in Gaza in that time, alongside many great socials. big congratulations to Daniel Crosbie who will be top, top class

Sympathy? How insulting.

Workers at Hitachi in Newton Aycliffe don’t need sympathy. They need action, they need security.

It’s a political decision not to save 750 jobs. The Tories have given up on County Durham and they’ll blame anyone but themselves.

We at Medical Aid for Palestinians stand with our colleagues at World Central Kitchen as they grieve the loss of their seven team members in .
They were killed as they served humanity.
When Israel faces no consequences for its continued targeting of aid workers then this is the result

IRC grieves with World Central Kitchen at the senseless loss of 7 aid workers. Their protection is a legal and moral right for civilians and the aid workers there to help them. The war in Gaza has cost too many lives. We call not just for safety and aid flows but for a sustained ceasefire.

After 14 years of the Conservatives, just 24% of people are satisfied with the NHS.

After 13 years of Labour, it was 70%.

That’s the Labour difference.

Today I asked the Minister what the Government is doing to support getting aid into Gaza, especially reinforcing its support for UNWRA as many countries around the world have done.

Resolution 2728 must be implemented immediately, and all council members must work for a sustained ceasefire. Efforts must not delay the beyond-urgent need for aid delivery, including removal of obstacles to aid across Gaza and use of all routes and border crossings.
