As part of our reinterpretation and redevelopment, our interiors have received a refresh. This included choosing paint colours to complement the original 1988 restored wallpapers, new furniture and Victorian taste for vibrant colours.

A picture from July, when new furniture selected by colonial furniture expert William Cottrell was moved into the house. These Victorian pieces were chosen for their unique representation of the era, to be displayed alongside existing items in our collection.

Here is a sneak peek of recently acquired lamps that have been installed in the house. These lamps in the entrance hall and stairwell complement furniture selected by expert William Cottrell ready for reopening.

KM’s 131st b-day is soon. But she died at 34. Fans celebrate the birth & death of #artists , #musicians , #writers . But what if they did their best work in their lifetimes & there was nothing left. Should we mourn a life gone too soon? Or is it best to be left wanting & wondering?

Our blossom tree has started to flower, heralding both spring and our reopening on the 13th of October! A few other blossom trees have been planted after our gardeners had been hard at work tidying our front garden~

Madeleine Somerville, a finalist in the 2018 Katherine Mansfield Short Story Award just got a shoutout on tonight’s #CountryCalendar for her story ‘I Am’.

Congratulations to the 2019 winner of the Katherine Mansfield Short Story Award, Asylvia Redgrave from Onslow College, for her short story The Log Woman. Samuel Marsden student Jemima Dowle, Julia Lockerd and Kate Twomey from Wellington Girl’s College were highly commended.

The Katherine Mansfield Short Story Award was presented at the National Library last night by our guest judge Kate Duignan. Ten talented writers were shortlisted for the award, which is an annual competition for year 12 and 13 students. Congratulations to all finalists!

We need you! We are looking for volunteers upon completion of redevelopment at the beginning of October.
This includes front of house, tour guiding, administration, gardening and event support. More information and a form of interest is available on our website.

External painting at 25 Tinakori Rd is underway. The house is getting a new coat of BS-06-33, the original 1888 colour, researched in the 1980s. The house is certainly fresher and (hopefully) ready to withstand another 30 years of Wellington weather!

Looking for something to do these school holidays? We are running our creative writing workshop next Monday for ages 10-14. These holidays this will be held at Pukeahu Education Centre (behind the war memorial). Tickets are still available on our website. We hope to see you there
