This lunchtime pupils and staff made the most of the lovely weather by holding a debate on Slater Court. The motion was 'THBT summer holidays are too long' which was ably debated by pupils from Years 7 and 8. Congratulations to the proposition who emerged victorious.

A successful End of Year Concert was held at Saffron Hall on the evening of Friday 26 April involving 85 pupils from across the school. Congratulations to all the pupils who took part and thank you to our wonderful Music Department who made it all possible. Leys Music

Last week illustrator, and Art Technician at The Leys, Marina Ruiz delivered a workshop on children’s books, narrative and sequence with our Lower Sixth artists. They really enjoyed the workshop and left with new skills and ideas for future career paths.

Congratulations to Lower Sixth pupil Barney T on being declared Youth Player of the Season at the Cambridge City Hockey Club dinner last week. A fabulous achievement!

Darcy Fenton-Stone (Old Leysian, Dale) returned to school today to share what she has achieved since leaving in 2017. Darcy talked to pupils about studying in Scotland, what a degree in International Relations involves as well as providing an insight into life in the Army.

Last Thursday, our A Level Psychology pupils had the opportunity to visit the brain unit in Cambridge. They were given a tour by Olaf and Mauritz to explore the unit and try equipment, including a brain scanning machine and a demonstration of an MRI scanner.

Our Upper Sixth didn’t disappoint with a fantastic array of fancy dress for their leavers’ photo on the Upper Quad this afternoon.

Well done to the staff and pupils who performed in the West House Masked Singer event yesterday evening. There was a real variety in the song choices which included Taylor Swift, ABBA and The Arctic Monkeys. Funds raised will be donated to Arthur Rank Hospice.

Congratulations to Jessica N, who was named by the English Department as the winner of this year’s Minerva Essay Competition. Named after the goddess of wisdom, the competition is open to pupils in Years 11-13 and involves writing a 2,000-word essay.

Last night our Drama Scholars had a fantastic opportunity to hear from professional actors. Mikaela Ruddell and Claudia Harrison answered questions exploring different facets of acting and their own routes into the industry. The evening was very inspiring and a huge success.

Well done to Cameron M who completed his Silver Wings Course at RNAS Yeovilton last week. Unfortunately the cadets were unable to do any flying due to a low cloud base so this will need to be completed later in the year. We wish him the best of luck as the programme continues.

Our Lower Sixth geographers have been busy undertaking fieldwork in the Lake District in preparation for their independent investigation. Despite some variable weather they have enjoyed tasks based on infiltration, carbon and glacial landscapes so far.

Over the Easter break our dining hall has been transformed! The servery is now divided into counters for various menu options, with an island containing a salad bar, coffee stations and water machines. There is also a new ‘self-clear station’ which will help reduce food wastage.

Welcome back to all staff and pupils as we start another busy term here at The Leys. We hope they enjoyed a restful break as we look forward to what the Summer Term will bring.

It has been great to see the weather improve for our pre-season Cricket training. This afternoon our Boys’ 1st XI have been out playing Norwich School, and we look forward to seeing the Girls in tomorrow who take on a team from Cambridge University. The Leys Sport

Pupils on the Stuttgart exchange have had a busy couple of days. As well as German lessons each morning they’ve also enjoyed trips to the Kunstmuseum, Stuttgart Zoo and Botanical Gardens, as well as trying the local cuisine.
