The day the soldiers came... 21 May 1944
It is 5 p.m. in the sleepy village of Frayssinet-le-Gélat (46114 Lot) when two columns of SS Das-Reich division vehicles breaks the calm. The vehicles continue on a little further then halt on the road to Cahors. 90 minutes later, more SS

Vanguard WWII by Cadet - bringing history to life! After the war obscene amounts of former SS war criminals escaped any form of justice. Lots who were sentenced for war crimes, hardly did any time in jail. They then went on to get nice secure jobs with Siemens, BMW, even the police. Joachim Peiper ???

Protestors against the war in Gaza outside a civic reception in Kerry for Governor of New York. Kathy Hochul’s grandparents left Maharees for US in 1919. She made controversial remarks last February when she expressed support for Israel at a gathering of Jewish philanthropists

Dermot Kennedy Beautiful place. A similar tiled jewel is The Bartons Arms in Birmingham, now sadly left adrift due to modern development and closed I think.

Had a group from the US on a history tour around the North Inner City talking about changes from the 1930s tenements into the new social housing flat complex’s. They were shocked at the history of Irelands industrial schools & Magdillon Laundries, & many other social issues.

On to Heudicourt for a stop at the grave of David Ross, just 14 years and three months old when killed in 1918. Even more remarkable was the fact he’d been wounded when aged just 13 during Third Ypres. A brave lad.

Is it still available? Last time I saw some, the label depicted the Sikh soldier & British officer seated, drinking coffee together. An interesting case study in decolonisation!

Yesterday we payed our respects to the Ottoman soldiers at Sogandlidere Cemetery on the Helles Peninsular. A mix of symbolic graves and original field graves. Major logistics were here in 1915 including medical field hospitals. It now has its own friendly guardian.
