A 16th century face looking back at me. It’s likely this shard of salt glazed stoneware was once part Bellarmine, made in Germany and brought to London to hold wine, ale or water in one of the city’s many taverns.

Another nice find from yesterday, a Georgian Royal Navy officer’s button, late 1700s to very early 1800s. This button may have even seen service at the Battle of Trafalgar.

This lace aglet has been languishing in the mud for c. 300 years. It looks gold, but it isn’t. Sometimes copper alloy comes out of the mud as bright as the day it went in, or covered in nature’s gilding (a chemical reaction that happens over time
