We have many things to be proud of in the UK, not least our tax code which at over 10 million words is the longest and most convoluted in the world.

(As is trending).

Why are there still teetotallers in 2024?

Being perpetually sober and preachy is proven to make everyone think you're a self-righteous bore.

It is a surefire sign of an irritating prig

Tipsiness cheers men's souls and makes us expansive and social

Tomorrow is the 25th anniversary of Scottish devolution. That silence you hear is the sound of nobody celebrating. Holyrood has been a dripping roast for the Scottish political élite and burgeoning nomenklatura, who’ve enjoyed salaries, expenses, perks, status and state funding…

‘Careful what you wish for’ really is the most reliable piece of advice there is.

Lockdowns to ‘flatten the curve’ ➡️ WFH culture shift celebrated by laptop classes ➡️ kids stop going to school

A 13.5% pay rise for the Night Czar, from £117,000 to £133,000, is an insult to the taxpayer.

As recent Adam Smith Institute research has highlighted, 3,011 bars, pubs, and clubs have closed across London since the pandemic. In any other job, you'd get fired for a record like that!

German business model was based on:

1. Cheap energy from Russia

2. Cheap subcontractors in Eastern Europe

3. Steadily growing exports to China

All three are gone by now, but German politicians and unions are still mentally stuck in a world that doesn’t exist anymore.

Here's a very good thread – linked to a very good essay – on Beijing's 'technonationalism'. I've long argued that, like the USSR in the 1960s, Beijing hopes that a technological breakthrough will drive a resolution of its economic problems.

Almost two years on and no change....

- 1 in every 8 shops vacant
- Footfall down 30%
- Reported crime up c. 15%
- Abundance of tacky candy stores

And still no decision from Michael Gove on our plans to help fix these issues by building a brand new flagship M&S store!!😤
