Given that this parliament has seen a pandemic and record waiting lists, you might have expected NHS funding to have grown faster than planned.

But in a new Institute for Fiscal Studies election briefing, we show that health spending has grown SLOWER than planned at the 2019 election.

Two big findings:

1) Real terms health spending has grown less quickly than planned in 2019, despite a pandemic intervening;

2) In real terms health spending has risen less quickly than usual. But it's risen much faster than usual as a % of GDP. One of many costs of poor growth

Latest UK labour market figures are out. We have barely turned the corner; in fact things are getting worse in some areas. Number of people in work is falling. The number of people who are neither working nor looking for work (2.83m) due to long term sickness is STILL going up.
