Father's Day is giving me really visceral flashbacks to Sunday nights growing up in Baltimore.

Pot roast for dinner, procrastinated homework, choir practice that morning, Dad whistling to Mozart on the stereo, and sitting through '60 Minutes' until 'Murder, She Wrote' came on.

End & beginning: Betrayal of Christ faces Annunciation to Mary in Hours of Jeanne d'Evreux, 1325. Love how bodies of son and mother echo one another. For feast day of the Annunciation, which is today.

Mosaics from Mausoleo di Galla Placidia, Ravenna. Built between 425 and 450. It was built by Empress Galla Placidia but it’s actually not her mausoleum — she died in Rome and was buried there.

The chapter house at Salisbury Cathedral, c. 1250-60. The octofoils in the tracery here make it *far* better than the much more famous one at Westminster Abbey.
