2️⃣ Members of the health committee of @Siaya_assembly joined the dialogue led by Hon.Adar who reiterated the assembly's commitment to anchoring #RMNCAH provision into law to enhance it's prioritization, addressing gaps identified and enhancing access to MNCH services for all.

The need to increase the number of Health Care Workers(HCWs) that served the majority of the rural population at dispensary level from 1 HCW to 2 was emphasized. This is in addition to onjob training for level 2 staff on cervical cancer screening.

As we entered day 2⃣ of our community dialogues in Bondo,there was emphasis on the importance of ANC profile including:HIV/STIs testing,malaria testing & treatment,tetanus injection,counselling & monitoring of any pregnancy complications all aimed at improving the #MNCH outcomes

We also often encounter the assumption that sexual abuse cannot exist between intimate partners💑 because of the nature of their relationship. This is however not the case. Even in an intimate relationship, sexual contact must be consensual, otherwise it is considered abuse.

At a breakfast meeting with CSOs, Hon Desma, CECM #Gender -Vihiga recognized gender as a critical pillar within the department & the need for effective engagement with CSOs. She disclosed plans to establish a gender coordination unit for proper coordination framework with CSOs.

Addressing these challenges is critical in the attainment of the ENAP-EPMM targets and overall improvement of Maternal, Newborn and Child Health outcomes in the county.

✅Poor roads that were inaccessible, ✅Lack of toilets in the facility,
✅ Facility not operating 24 hours despite having a maternity ward forcing women in labour going to far facilities.

The community members shared some of the challenges they faced in receiving optimal services at the facility including
✅Lack of lab services for ANC profile
✅Lack of electricity hence no cold chain for some of the vaccines

Today in partnership with the Bondo Sub county team we facilitated 2 community dialogue sessions for pregnant women and mothers to sensitize them on the importance of ANC/PNC/ Contraception and skilled deliveries.

In his opening remarks at the Siaya County RH Stakeholders meeting, the County Director Health, Dr. Oruenjo urged partners to keenly support the ongoing process of having a RMNCAH bill in place to ensure adequate funding for reproductive health services & improve health outcomes

Cross-cutting factors contributing to the negative maternal and child indicators are lack of necessary equipment for optimal newborn care, shortage of commodities, understaffing of health facilities, weak referral systems, and inadequate implementation of MPDSR recommendations.

Access to Medicines Platform & other key stakeholders today joined the department of health at the Kakamega County UHC TWG meeting to discuss progress on PCN operationalization, partners involvement in PHC programs and contribute to the development of 4th quater county work plan
