Lester Piggott rode the John Dunlop-trained Circus Plume to victory for owner Sir Robin McAlpine. Lester's 27th Classic, equalling Frank Buckle's 19th century record. Lester won the Classic 6 times his first was on the Queen's Carrozza in 1957.πŸ‡πŸŒŸ

Harry Wragg-trained Psidium (Roger Poincelet) at 66-1 won the 28-runner race from Dicta Drake, Pardao & stable-mate Sovrango (George Moore) in 4th. Owner/Breeder was Mrs Arpad Plesch. The longest priced winner since Aboyeur (100-1) in 1913. πŸ‡πŸ‘

In 1969: 17-year-old Pat Eddery rode the Staff Ingham-trained Philoctetes to win the Vaux Gold Tankard Redcar Racecourse for owner Phil Bull. Pat finished the season with 23 winners (including Sky Rocket in Royal Hunt Cup) & stood 4th in the Apprentices' table. πŸ‡πŸŒŸ
