Isolated to scattered storms are expected to develop between 11 AM and 2 PM along and a bit east of the Mississippi. Brief downpours, lightning and locally gusty winds are possible from the stronger storms.

Two of the worst tornadoes in Iowa's history happened today, in 1968. The 1960s also had another F5 tornado event nearby, in Belmond, Iowa, Oct 14th, 1966.

Another round of rain is expected late tonight and Thursday. While rainfall amounts look to be light, locally heavier amounts are possible in thunderstorms. While not certain, there is a low risk of isolated severe storms Thursday afternoon mainly east of the Mississippi.

The outlook through late May indicates a 40-42% probability of above normal rainfall for the entire area. This outlook suggests the potential for additional improvement to the severe drought conditions across eastern Iowa.

Clearing conditions will be seen tonight setting the stage for a pleasant Wednesday. Showers and storms will return Thursday, which may linger into Friday. Mostly sunny skies will prevail this weekend, but isolated showers can't be ruled out entirely.
