A fairly seasonable end to 2023, though midnight temperatures look several degrees above the average (see prior post).

We were able to locate hourly weather data for Philadelphia back to 1905, so here's some weather stats for midnight New Year's Eve. We expect temperatures to run a bit above the average this year, but there is a small chance of rain.

Today will feature more clouds and a brisk, cool breeze... at least, cool compared to yesterday's relative warmth. There may even be a few sprinkles, especially this afternoon, and perhaps some flurries in the higher terrain.

On this date 23 years ago, the 'End of Millennium' storm struck the region. The forecast was extremely challenging. As the storm began, we had winter storm warnings for the entire area, with snow forecast to range from 3 to 11 inches. Instead, totals ranged from 0 to 25 inches!

(2/2) Temps over the weekend will be a few degrees north of normal. We have a ways to go before we get to the coldest time of the year based on climatology. No widespread significant snow over the next week, but winter has just started!

(1/2) Having a hard time waking up in the morning? Might be due to the late sunrises. Sunsets are later, and there already is a bit more daylight. Over the next month, sunrises will be earlier along with later sunsets, and the additional daylight will be noticeable!

We're gonna actually see our local star for a fair amount of today, which is something we haven't seen much of for the last week. Temps will remain notably above normal, though will be trending downward over the next few days.
