With a place steeped in such birding history as Fair Isle Bird Obs day count records are hard to come by. Yesterday we broke not one but two Red-Backed Shrike (37) and Icterine Warbler (34). With a smattering of other common migrants and our first Blyths Reed of the year made up a good day!
Great working with UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology rolling out a farmer led Moth ID project. 26 Chilterns National Landscape farmers from 4 #farmerclusters briefed, trained and constructed their moth traps. Surveys over the spring & summer to build farmers knowledge base and test new Recording App 👍👍
Get out next weekend and discover the wildlife secrets of two of the best BBO Wildlife Trust nature reserves in the Chilterns - there are still places to be booked on guided walks at Aston Clinton Ragpits on Sat 25th and Dancersend Extension on Sun 26th. Details at bbowt.org.uk/events
A great day on Fair Isle Bird Obs still with lots of Red-Backed Shrikes, two new Bluethroats and this cracking White-tailed Eagle which flew over our heads while we were ringing these very cute Lapwing chicks !! Really can’t beat it !
In words Foo Fighters ‘it’s times like these that make you live again’ … 9 active boxes with BORG-Owl & Raptor 🦉 on Chalk Cherries and Chairs Team Farmer Cluster. (6 Barn Owl, 2 Kestrel & Tawny Owl) incl. 504g fem Barn Owl & bird 1st ringed in 2019. 4 new boxes occupied, great start to season 👍🍾
Exciting to show one of our Chalk Cherries and Chairs Team #farmercluster members his first Duke of Burgundy on a site neighbouring his farm that is brilliantly managed for them by National Trust South East & BC Upper Thames & Chiltern Rangers nice to also get my fix while they are still on the wing 👍👍
Some more class birds from Fair Isle Bird Obs the last couple of days. Managed to lifer Quail giving some unbelievable views in a roadside ditch, Red-Backed Shrikes and Wood Warblers still around giving some colour to the crofts and this cracking Wood Sandpiper was one of two on Utra Scrape
🌟 We're thrilled to reveal our new wetland creation project at Lopemede Farm. Made possible by collaborating with farmer Eddie Rixon, Buckinghamshire Council & Trust for Oxfordshire's Environment to create a brand-new Habitat Bank! 🌳🐦buckinghamshire.gov.uk/news/council-p…
Another ridiculous day on Fair Isle Bird Obs with new arrivals coming in after yesterdays fall. Wood Warblers on the cliffs with the flycatchers and Redstarts and Wrynecks in the crofts. My highlight was life ticking Bluethroat on census then catching one late afternoon! What amazing birds!
An absolutely outrageous day on Fair Isle Bird Obs yesterday with migrants literally everywhere you turned. A fall day any birder would be dreaming of! Personal highlights on a massive day include, 2 Red Backed Shrike, 3 Icterine Warblers, Jonnie’s Male Collard Flycatcher and 5 Wryneck 1/2
