A significant milestone for children's rights in Scotland today.
We welcome the improvements in the lives of children in conflict with the law that will be brought as a result of the Children (Care and Justice) (Scotland) Bill being passed today by MSPs in Scottish Parliament.
I have serious #HumanRights concerns about United Kingdom’s #RwandaBill . Its adoption by the UK Parliament raises major issues about the rights of #asylum seekers and the #RuleOfLaw .

In 2019, Glodi Wabuela became the first ‘county lines’ drug dealer to be tried & convicted for human trafficking. It was a shock to realise I’d gone to primary school with him. I’ve spent the last year putting together his story for The Guardian Long Read

Earlier this week I was privileged to speak at the OSCE Anti-Trafficking Trafficking Conference.
I stressed the importance of an holistic human rights-based approach.
And expressed frustration over UK law, policy & practice that makes child trafficking victims less safe. #RwandaBill
Pleased to have had the opportunity to give evidence this morning to Education, Children and Young People Committee on our new Strategic Plan.
Delighted to be able to speak at this important event on children’s rights and trafficking, drawing on work by Aberlour Children's Charity CYCJ Scotland and Scottish Refugee Council 🧡.
Whilst MPs debate the Rwanda Bill, further scrutiny at Public Accounts Committee by APPG member Tim Loughton MP 🇺🇦 reveals the truth - Government have left 40,000+ people with genuine claims for asylum in limbo, not able to be removed and unfairly blocked from contributing to British society.
More Rwanda bill ping pong today, but the detailed scrutiny is likely to be at Public Accounts Committee as senior officials appear at 3.30pm. A chance to look at the impact of the Illegal Migration Act and the government giving up on making asylum decisions, shutting people out of the system.
