Phytoplankton blooms influence #OceanAcidification and low oxygen conditions. When they bloom, they use up carbon and release oxygen into the water. When the blooms die, decomposition takes up oxygen and release carbon into the water.

What causes #OceanAcidification ?
The #ocean acts like a sponge soaking up ~25% of the carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. While the ocean isn't acidic, this changes its chemistry to increase in acidity, with consequences to some marine life.
