Mr. Douglas Jung was the first Canadian of Asian descent to be elected to the #HoC . Mr. Jung was born in Victoria and was MP for Vancouver Centre from 1957 to 1962. He fervently advocated for the rights of Chinese Canadians throughout his career.

This #AsianHeritageMonth , we remember the Canadians of Asian descent who were deprived of the right to vote until 1948, when the Dominion Elections Act was amended to grant these rights.

Ms. Simma Holt was a Canadian journalist, an author, and the first Jewish woman elected to the House of Commons of Canada. She was the MP for Vancouver Kingsway from 1974 to 1979.

This high-relief carving in the #ParliamentBuilding was designed by former Dominion Sculptor Eleanor Milne and sculpted by Fernand Rossignol. Part of the History of Canada series, it depicts ships navigating the immense St. Lawrence.
