The torrential downpour has caused severe flooding on our network in particular Tyne Dock & South Shields. The service is now suspended between Bede-South Shields. We will be closing Sth Shields station to deal with the flood. Please seek shelter for now and await further advice

A 16% reduction in ASB in the Northumbria Police area. I’m pleased to see this but we won’t stop our work to prevent crime and ASB. Thanks to councils, Tyne and Wear Metro , housing associations, Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service, Northumberland Fire & Rescue Service and of course Northumbria Police for coming together to tackle ASB.

On Saturday we are joining Northumbria Police and North East Ambulance Service to talk road safety on Newcastle's Quayside.

We will be offering advice to cyclists and motorcyclists as part of the national #TwoWheel campaign.

We are condemning attacks on police and firefighters in Newcastle which have left an officer injured and resulted in emergency service vehicles being damaged.

Such behaviour is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated – and those responsible will be brought to justice.
