Yes! Teachers are dehumanized in this race to get back to 'normal' even though 'normal' is what got us into this mess! A window is open for us to not only give Ts time to reflect/plan, but to do so with idea that maybe we need to change some really significant things about maths

Ilana Horn The problem is, you can only teach/do what is possible. I hope teachers making this kind of temporary shift will remind themselves that the lessons they are REALLY teaching are more important: lessons about doing what is doable, giving yourself grace. Students see that & value it

Hermana, I'm back on, but still not so good at linking people's threads. So, perhaps you can join your thread to this one? I thought your ideas were so important.

Good point! This speaks to what ๐ŸŸฃ Dr. Laurie Rubel ๐ŸŽ—๏ธ was saying in her thread--what kind of maths we should be showcasing. We need to keep interrogating forms/uses of maths and what they say about not only who maths is by/for but also what constitutes maths and its purpose in our world

Great thread!! I would add that in rethinking the current fuel source for math (fear) and replacing it with attachment, we find new ways to conceptualize life (the mathematics of love, joy, attachment, beauty, humility, kindness, etc).

Yes! If mathematics is the science of patterns, what does focusing on patterns help tell us about our gifts? And, are we remembering not to hoard those gifts? It's in the giving of gifts that we not only develop attachment to others, we grow!
